1. Who are you and what do you do?
My name is Scott Russell and I take photos.
2. How did you get your start?
The technical beginning for me was high school photography class. I immediately took to it and loved the whole process from shooting to developing in the darkroom. A few years later my parents got me a basic 35mm camera for Christmas and that’s when it really began. I sporadically shot film for many years and loved it. Eventually I switched to mostly digital photography, at which point I officially became obsessed.
3. What inspires you?
Everything! But relating specifically to photography, I would say people, nature and light, particularly light. I could definitely be described as a light junkie. Often I will seek out natural light sources more than subjects(which is a bit of a problem). I believe that anything under the right light can be beautiful.
4. What do you like about AZ?
I love the Arizona desert. The Saguaro “forests” are my favorite.
5. Where can we see your work?
Right now you can see it on my website, prettyfires.com.
6. What would you like to accomplish before you die?
Truly living, being my own boss and enjoying the freedom that comes with it.
7. What is your mantra?
Just like Kevin in Home Alone, “I’m not afraid anymore!”
