YabYum Seven: Jon Wassom

1. Who are you and what do you do?

I am Jon Wassom, and I am a full-time painter that resides in Phoenix, AZ. I believe that being an artist is not only a hobby or a profession…its a lifestyle. It is who I am. I will typically buy art supplies before I buy groceries.

2. How did you get your start?

I started painting when I was 16 years old. I had the most incredible high school art teachers, and college professors that gave me encouragement. They taught me the skills necessary to begin my career as a creative. For the most part, I haven’t stopped creating since.

3. What inspires you?

The things that inspire me are the media, other artists (both past and present), spiritual concepts, and anything that involves physical movement.

Wassom 124. What do you like about AZ?

I like Arizona, because it is sunny almost all the time, and that I practically never have to scrape ice off my windshield.

5. Where can we see you(r) work?

You can see my current solo show Palettes of the World at MonOrchid thru the month of August. Other work is also available to view on my website at www.wassomgallery.com or on Facebook. I am also currently showing at Touchstone Gallery in Washington D.C.

6. What would you like to accomplish before you die?

Before I die, I want to travel and experience as many things that this life has to offer. I believe life experiences, and helping others are the most important things in the world.

7. What is your mantra?

When I’m painting, my mantras are “Listen, Feel, Explore, Sacrifice, Resurrect, and Dance”.
