Yes, folks, today is Record Store Day so get off the computer and head to your neighborhood record store before all the exclusives disappear! But before you rush off, you might want to decide where exactly you’re heading. A number of local record stores will be hosting live musical performances and food trucks in addition to the record store exclusives that drive vinyl lovers out homes early on a Saturday in April every year.
For your complete list of record stores in the area participating in Record Store Day, I suggest checking out the complete list through the official website for RSD here. Below, we’ve highlighted some of our must-visit spots.
Revolver Records will be offering shoppers an exclusive compilation of live tracks aptly titled Recorded at a Record Store because, yes folks, it was recorded right there at the record store and pressed into a sweet pink 7″. Cherie Cherie, Playboy Manbaby, and Petty Things are the three bands sharing the vinyl, proving that Revolver really knows what’s what in local music.
Thank you, Revolver, for letting us steal this preview of albums. |
Head to Zia Records for You Heard Us Back When, Vol. 8, their annual compilation featuring some of the region’s most talented performers including Fairy Bones, Emby Alexander, Sweet Ghosts, Tobie Milford, Battered Suitcases and lots of others to bring the grand total up to 40 tracks! The complete track list can be found here.
Stinkweeds downtown will be having a party all day to commemorate Record Store Day 2014 featuring local DJs and performances from bands like Freaks of Nature and The Father Figures. Short Leash will be on hand slinging hot dogs for hungry shoppers and show attendees alike. Music starts early so check the schedule here and remember to set your alarm.
