Good Question: Brother Teresa Wants to Make You Dance with ‘Jam Chill Slam’ [interview]

by Jacob Unterreiner

Brother Teresa really wants you to dance, but they don’t want to make it easy for you. The band’s acrobatic, boogie-inducing riffs are infectious, but sometimes they come in irregular time signatures; forcing the audience to think before they groove.

The band is fronted by a pair of singer-guitarists in Joe Allie and Salah Moharram, and is rounded out by bassist Bailey Stewart and drummer Dom Crooks. I sat down with the whole confounding crew in order to discuss their evolution as a band and their debut record: Jam Chill Slam…

Audrey Heartburn: ‘Dressing Room’ [review + interview]

by Logan Lowrey-Rasmussen

I remember attending Endless Bummer 3 last summer and meeting Salah Moharram and Sophia O’Malley like it was yesterday (and I can’t even remember yesterday). Although I had yet to see their joint project, Audrey Heartburn, it was one of the more quaint personal interactions I had between the energetic sets I caught that day: all three of us trading jokes and discussing bands and musical nuances. My name is Piper J. Daniels, and I’m thrilled to say I’m a writer. My debut essay collection, Ladies Lazarus, received the Tarpaulin Sky Book Prize, was longlisted for the PEN/Diamonstein Spielvogel Award for the Art of the Essay, and was named one of Entropy’s favorite nonfiction books of 2018. I am in the process of completing my second book, El Mirage, which focuses on love, gender, illusion, and the Sonoran Desert. I worked for many years as a ghostwriter but burned out on narcissism and moved to full-time manuscript consultation, where I help working and aspiring writers see and improve upon the beauty of their work…

Aladdin Brings Spectacular Performance to ASU Gammage

by Rebecca Rudnyk

Disney knows how to do Broadway.

They’ve proven it again and again, arguably most successfully with The Lion King which began its run on the Great White Way in 1997 and is ranked amongst the longest running Broadway shows of all time. Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, and most recently Frozen. Disney has proven that animated films built on a foundation of magical and unhappenable-happenings can be adapted for the stage and brought to live audiences. Aladdin proves it yet again…
