by Logan Lowrey-Rasmussen

I remember attending Endless Bummer 3 last summer and meeting Salah Moharram and Sophia O’Malley like it was yesterday (and I can’t even remember yesterday). Although I had yet to see their joint project, Audrey Heartburn, it was one of the more quaint personal interactions I had between the energetic sets I caught that day: all three of us trading jokes and discussing bands and musical nuances. I promised myself I would attend an Audrey Heartburn show, but that day had yet to materialize before their debut EP, released on December 13, 2018 would find its way into my meaty claws. The three-track punk-hearted companion crosses a few genre lines, but is noteworthy for its clean composition, artistic intent, and well-timed cues…

The album, which makes me feel like Dave Grohl in “Walk” both musically and lyrically, contains vocal chaos among smart, instrumental qualities Frasier Crane could enjoy…

No matter what type of music you play, standing out as a musician is a difficult task. However, for singer-songwriters, standing out is nearly impossible. The sound of soft, folky strums of acoustic singer-songwriters can be heard at every coffee shop, bookstore, and art gallery in the Valley…

What album got more airtime at YabYum HQ this year than any other? It was, without a doubt, The Echo Bombs’ April release, Pleb. These ten-tracks of turbo fueled disappointment provided us with some of our favorite singles of the entire year, but the best way to listen is from start to finish and then all over again…

So, when Playboy Manbaby came up at the staff radio show the day after Xmas last year, we were all in agreement that yes, the band deserved an award for their auditory efforts this year. Then, when we moved on to which album stood out more for us, we were at an equal divide. Writer turned on writer, editor on editor, basically, the furies of hell broke loose…
