At Home With: Fairy Bones

After many understandable rejections of the concept by those wishing to keep their lives private, I found the “yes” in Chelsey Louise, guitarist and lead vocals of Arizona band on the up-and-up, Fairy Bones. Nestled in an east-central Phoenix neighborhood with a nondescript dirt front yard lived the lair of pop-punk late twenty-somethings I was slightly intimidated by. On Friday, June 28th, I made an eventful return to the venue where I covered my first local event review for YabYum: the prolific and punky Rip’s Bar of Phoenix. Like my visit last year, the bar remained frozen in time, with its regulars lining up for a night of “rock and excitement” headlined by buRgandy juRk, with support from Critical Miss, The Maybe Next Years, and El Googly Diablo. Social Savvy: The Bro Show

“Where’s all the dudes?” is the question that you find in the “About” section on The Bro Show’s Facebook page.

On a surface level, one thinks it would be ridiculous to ask such an obvious question. However, if you are familiar with Phoenix’s comedy scene, those “dudes” you see having a ball onstage are comedians Courtney Walhstrom (C-Dog) and Dana Whissen (Angus), creators/producers of The Bro Show, an all-women stand-up/sketch comedy show as a vehicle to expand their comedic writing as well as poke fun at male stereotypes…
